the architecture

Privacy isn’t a setting.
It’s the architecture.

Cloud dictation records you, uploads it, and types back what a server heard. stilltype runs the model on your Mac’s neural engine. There is nothing to upload — so there is nothing to leak, and no one to trust.

Turn off Wi-Fi. Keep talking.

cloud dictation — everyone else

Every sentence is uploaded, transcribed on hardware you’ll never see, and sent back. It works while the network works — and while the policy holds.

No connection — dictation unavailable.

The whole trip stays inside your Mac. No account, no upload, no log anywhere. The words land at your cursor, and the audio is gone.

— nothing changed. It never needed the network. Offline isn’t a mode; it’s the only way it works.

(this switch is a simulation — run the real one on day one:
turn off Wi-Fi, hold the key, keep talking.)

the mechanic

The whole app is a held key.

No window, no button, no “start recording.” It waits in your menu bar for one key.

01 · hold

Hold right ⌥

From wherever your cursor is — Mail, Slack, your editor, a commit message. The small dark deck floats up: it’s listening.

02 · talk

Say it like you’d say it

Full speed, half-thoughts, names and all. Punctuation and capitals come out right.

03 · let go

Release

The text lands at your cursor before your hand finds the trackpad. That’s the whole interface.

it lands in

the number we won’t print

This is where the accuracy number goes.

We won’t print one. Every dictation site quotes an accuracy percent, and none of them measured your voice, your accent, or your words. The only benchmark that matters is your first sentence — hold the key and run it.

Dictation

Hold a key, talk, let go — clean text at your cursor, in any app. Runs entirely on Apple silicon; works with Wi-Fi off, on a plane, in a dead zone. This is the product, and it’s the only promise on this page.

small, on purpose

Made by one person.
Kept small on purpose.

stilltype is a small indie app. One person builds it, fifty people get it first, and it does one thing well: you talk, it types.

The build happens in public, right here on this site. No invented praise, no borrowed logos — when the first fifty say something real, it lands here with their names.

the fifty

Be one of the fifty.

Fifty people, invited by hand. Leave an email or an @handle — you get an invite, not a newsletter. This signup is the only thing that ever leaves the page.

50 spots · private beta

50 / 50

The beta is full.

The first fifty are in, and we’re building with them. The next round opens right here, in public — no ghost waitlist, no “priority access.” What you say to your Mac will still be nobody else’s business.
